7 Words that will Change Your Life 1-8-2012

Good morning
and welcome to the House of the Lord – we pray that each of you are
experiencing the Blessings of God in this New Year!

As I was
praying and seeking God on what to preach this morning, the Holy Spirit
reminded me of the first two (2) messages that I have preached:
How to Make
a Fresh Start and how we need to do some things to make that fresh start –
2ndly we
preached “A New Year for Our Church”
And in this
message we preached on how we need to have a consuming passion to know Jesus!
This leads
us to this morning’s message. If you
have your Bibles, turn with me to
Romans 1:16
“Seven Words That Will Change Your
Life”
Romans 1:16

From the
moment we accept Christ, we begin a process of change – we become new creatures
in Christ.
The good
news is that it is Christ that gives us the ability to change.
The
scriptures lets us know that, We are his workmanship, his creation, created for
his purpose.

This morning
I want to share with you an avenue of change.
Simply said,
I want to share with you, Seven Words
that will Change your Life.

They are in
our text for this morning:
If you have Romans
1:16 say Amen.
The
scripture reads like this, “For I am
not ashamed of the gospel of Christ; For it is the power of God unto salvation
to every one that believeth; to the Jews first, and also to the Greek”.

Did you see
them?
They are
(underline them):
“I am not
ashamed of the Gospel.”

I. Background:
First of all
church, we need to consider the time in which this passage was written.
Rome was in
power. Rome was an Empire filled with pride.
After all,
they’d been in power for a little over 200 years (sounds a lot like another
nation I know).
Pride came
from what a person had or the social status they held.
This Pride
was Empire-wide.
Even the
Jews (i.e. Pharisees) of Jesus’ and Paul’s day had a type of pride.

We read in
Matthew 23:1-7 what Jesus said about them and the passage reads like this:
1Then spake
Jesus to the multitude, and to his disciples, 2Saying The scribes and the Pharisees
sit in Moses' seat: 3All therefore
whatsoever they bid you observe, that observe and do; but do not ye after their
works: for they say, and do not. 4For
they bind heavy burdens and grievous to be borne, and lay them on men's
shoulders; but they themselves will not move them with one of their
fingers. 5But all their works they do
for to be seen of men: they make broad their phylacteries, and enlarge the
borders of their garments, 6And love the
uppermost rooms at feasts, and the chief seats in the synagogues, 7And greetings in the markets, and to be
called of men, Rabbi, Rabbi..

And in this
ancient world filled with the pride of social standing Paul says,
“I am not
ashamed of the Gospel!”

II. Ancient Languages Grammar Lesson:
In both
Hebrew and Greek, many times a person will emphasis their statement by stating
the opposite in the negative. For example, several of the 10 commandments are
stated
“You shall
not....”
The reason
for this is that it emphasizes the desired opposite action.

“You shall
not bear false witness against your neighbor” literally means, “you shall have
great respect for your neighbor” or “you shall love your neighbor so much that
you would never say anything bad about him.”

Jesus says
in the model prayer, “and lead us NOT into temptation.” Lit. = “lead us in such
righteousness that we never face temptation.” It emphasizes the desired
opposite action.

The same is
true in our text for this morning. When Paul says, “I am NOT ashamed of the
Gospel,” what he is saying is that “he is PROUD of the Gospel.”

No one in
Rome with pride would even consider following the teachings of the crucified
son of a carpenter.

III. (Paul’s Background)
Consider
what Paul had been through.
He had been imprisoned in Philippi, chased out
of Thessalonica, smuggled out of Beroea, laughed at in Athens, and in Corinth
his message was considered foolishness to the Greeks and a stumbling-block to
the Jews.

But Paul
stands firm in his commitment, tall in his faith and says
“I am not
ashamed of the Gospel.”

IV. Can you echo those words?
Are we
living as Paul did…..
A. At
school, at work, or at play, do you proclaim the fact that you have made a
commitment to Jesus, or is that something you try to keep under wraps?

B. Do the
people closest to you know the stand you have taken for Jesus? --- or are you
keeping that top secret?

C. Folks,
these seven words can change you life.
Not just
saying them, but living them. Like Paul.

V. Why was Paul NOT Ashamed of the
Gospel?

A. It was
the “Gospel” -- (Gk. Euangelion) --lit. “Good News”

B. What was
the Good News?

1. The good
news is that there is salvation.

2. And the
Gospel is the force behind salvation. “For it is the power of God for
salvation”

a. “Power”
-- Gk. Dunamis -- Eng. Dynamite -- Force!!!

3. There is
power to be removed from lostness.
There is
power to have sin removed from us.
There is
power to escape the wrath of God (Romans 5:9)

This is the reason
Paul could say “I am not ashamed of the Gospel” Because he heralded the Good
News of Salvation -- Salvation to “everyone who believes, to the Jew first and
also to the Greek.”

I am not
ashamed of the Gospel. Those seven words can change your life. Not just saying
them, but living them, like this college freshman. Like Paul. We are a people
of pride, but in what do we base our pride? Is it in status? Money? Ability? Or
is it in the Gospel of Salvation?

A New Year for Our Church 1-4-2012

A New Year
For Our Church

Philippians
2:12-16

Tonight, I
want to preach “A NEW YEAR FOR BPC”

A) Several
years ago when our country was showing signs of economic instability, right in
the
heart of the
nation there was a pocket of prosperity!
* It was the
booming city of Wichita, Kansas!
*
Unemployment rate was only 3% …….
* It had a
$14 million city hall under construction and the board of education had just
approved a $30 million building program.
* Right in
the midst of a nation plagued with economic problems, there was a pocket of
prosperity!

B) What does
our world need most as we exit 2011 and enter the new year 2012?
* Can I tell
you that, what we need is pockets of spiritual prosperity!
* We need
groups of dynamic believers scattered all over the place.
* We need
colonies of heaven, living clean lives as children of God in a dark world full
of people who are “crooked and perverse” (morally corrupt), as Paul points out
in v.15.

C) That’s
the church … That’s the way it was meant to be and the world needs it to be!
* What will
enable a body of believers to be this kind of church?
* Let me
give you four things this tonight that will help BPC to become this kind of
church …

The first
thing we must have is:
(1) A CONSUMING PASSION TO KNOW JESUS!

A) A well
known Christian motivator says there are two questions he asks as he comes to a
group to
begin his work … “What do you want?” and “Where are your men?”
* What do we
want as a church?
* What are our goals?
* What is
our fulfillment through service?
* Ask Paul
what did he wanted … Look at Phil. 3:10
“That I may know him, and the power …”

B) The way
he put it, he wanted to know Jesus better!
* He doesn’t
leave the impression that his desire was mild … It was a driving passion!
* It was
knowing Christ at any price!
* Now almost
20 centuries later, this is still where the action is … There is no real
spiritual life apart from Jesus Christ!

C) This is
the day that Christians need to honor their vows!
* This is
the day in which Christians need to let Christ be the center of their lives!
* This is
the day in which Christians need to seek Him, the living Word in the written
Word!
* This is
the day that we should talk about Him … That should be something that comes
natural!

D) We should
share Him because He is the best we have!
* And it’s
no surprise that if we do these things, our relationship will be alive.
* John
explains it in John 1:4 “In him was life; and the life was the light of men.”
* John 10:10
“I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it …”
* A pocket
of spiritual prosperity will be found only when there are Christians who have a
consuming
passion to know Jesus!

The second
thing we must have is:
(2) AN OVERFLOWING LOVE FOR OTHERS!

A) Paul was
not only inwardly excited, he was outwardly motivated!
* His love
reached out to others … And the reason is no secret …….
* Christ
filled his heart with love for others.
* Paul
practiced love in action … Love reaching out to others at a great cost to
himself.

B) Love
which got him in prison … Stoned … Persecuted …….
* Does
loving this way come naturally for those who trust Christ?
* Well, it
begins with trusting Him, but it is enhanced by other exercises …….
* For
instance: It’s necessary to get near people before we can love them!

C) It’s also
in order to pray for the necessary love!
* That’s
what Paul did for the Philippian Christians … Phil. 1:9 “And this I pray, that
your …”
* Paul
wanted these Christians to overflow in their love for one another.
* When you
truly love one another as Christ does, you love them in spite of their faults!
* If we want
a great church in 2012, we must have an overflowing love for others!

The third
thing we must have is:
(3) A WILLINGNESS TO PAY THE PRICE!

A) There is
no bargain day in the kingdom of God!
* Jesus made
that very clear in Matt. 13:44 … He told of a man who sold all that he had in
order to buy the treasure which he found
hid in a field.
* In Matt. 19:16-22 He told of a wealthy young
inquirer that the way to eternal life was to sell all that he had and give to
the poor!

B) Turn to Luke 9:57-62 for some more good
illustrations …….
* v.57 …
Here was a man who was evidently attracted by the grace of Christ.
* He came to
Jesus apparently of his own accord and declared his readiness to follow Him.
* But Jesus
immediately tested him by saying in v.58 “Foxes have holes, and birds of the …”

C) It’s as
though Jesus was saying, “If you follow Me, you must not expect earthly gain!”
* “I don’t
promise an easy time down here … I don’t guarantee temporal comforts …….”
* “I have no
home Myself … I have no riches … If you follow Me, it means a life of
self-denial.”
* I don’t
know if he ever followed the Lord after hearing that.

D) v.59
…Jesus notices another man and it appeared that he desired to follow Him!
* So Jesus
looks at this man and gives the invitation, “Follow Me.”
* And the
man gave his excuse for not following Him right then, “Lord, suffer me first …”
* This man
was saying, “Lord, I love You, and I’ll be ready to follow You someday …….”
* “But I’ve
got an aged father, and I can’t leave him … When he passes away and I bury him,
then I’ll follow You.”

E) Notice
Jesus’ response in v.60 … Jesus as it were said, “You must not put anything
first!”
* “If My
message has touched your heart and soul … If I have your trust and confidence
…”
* “If you
feel a divine call to represent Me in Israel, don’t wait until family
circumstances change.”
* “Begin now
to tell others what God has done for you and what He can do for them.”
* I don’t
know if he ever followed the Lord after hearing this.

F) v.61 …
Another man offered himself to Jesus, “Lord, I will follow thee; but let me
first …”
* Note the
words “but” and “first.”
* The man
was willing to follow Christ, but something else needed to be handled first!
* That
little word “but” has hindered many from following Jesus!
* “I’ll
follow You Lord, BUT I can’t give this up.”
* “I can’t
yield wholly to thee because …”

G) This man
said, “Lord, I’ll follow You, but I must first go talk it over with my family!”
* Jesus
answered in v.62 “No man, having put his hand to the plough, and looking back,
is fit …”
* We need to
realize this more and more … That Christ must have first place in our lives!
* There is
no indication that this man ever followed Christ either after hearing this.

H) It’s hard
today to get people who are willing to pay the price for serving Christ!
* They are
like these men in Luke 9 … They only want a partial commitment!
* But wherever
a body of believers who has a contagious faith from which light is shining in a
dark world,
somebody is paying a price!
* Hear the
Apostle Paul cry out in Phil. 3:7-8 …….
* Paul is
saying, “I have given up everything to win Christ!”

I) This is dependent
upon what we want to be as a church in 2012!
* A crowd
who will settle for nothing less than being a pocket of spiritual prosperity
will pay the price!
* Will you
pay the price in Christ’s service?
* Can we
depend on you?
* Will you
help?
* Or will
you be one of those who say, “I will, BUT let me FIRST …”

J) We need committed
christians … We need church workers … We need help in fund raisers …
* We need
people to help in the children’s churh … Will you help?
* Or will
you make your excuse, “I will, BUT let me FIRST …”
* How bad do
you want to see the church grow in this year?
* Are you
willing to pay the price … To sacrifice your life for Christ and His church in
2012?

The fourth
and final thing we must have is:
(4) A
CONFIDENCE THAT GOD WILL PROVIDE THE RESOURCES!

A) David
Livingstone, a missionary to Africa for 18 years came home to speak at a
University!
* He got up
to speak, face wrinkled by 27 fevers, darkened by the sun, with one arm hanging
limp due to a lion’s bite.
* He gave a
speech that left the audience quiet with amazement.
* He closed
out with, “And you know what … I’m going back!”
* He said,
“Shall I tell you what sustained me amidst the toils, the hardships and
loneliness of my life?”
* “It was
the promise of Jesus, ‘Lo, I am with you always …’”

B) The
Apostle Paul through all his afflictions said in Phil. 4:19 “But my God shall
…”
* God has
proven that verse true time and time again!
* Abraham on
Mt. Moriah …….
* Abraham
named the place “Jehovah-jireh,” meaning “The Lord will provide!”
* The widow
of Zarephath … The lad who gave his lunch … etc.

C) I could
use many other Bible truths concerning God providing for His people!
* Listen BPC
… We have to have confidence in our God that He will provide the resources we
need to
build a church … The money is out there … The people are out there …
* My
question to you is … Will you commit your life to the service of the Lord this
year, to help
in any way
you can, to let’s build a church for God’s glory!

CLOSE

A) A pocket
of spiritual prosperity … A likely description for a body of believers …….
* Ready to
be the church our community and our world needs in 2012.
* And the
four things that will enable us to be the church God wants us to be is …….

B) A
Consuming Passion To Know Jesus … An Overflowing Love For Others …….
* A
Willingness To Pay The Price …
* And A
Confidence That God Will Provide The Resources!
* Come to
Jesus today and tell Him that you want Him to have all of you!

How to Make a Fresh Start 1-1-12

How To Make A Fresh Start

Isaiah 43:18-19

How many of you here this morning, “ would like to have a fresh start in your Christian
life? ” Many of us here this morning have made many mistakes in our lives as
Christians. We have experienced many setbacks and failures throughout our
lives. Sometimes we allow these mistakes, these setbacks and failures to
enslave us to the point that we never enjoy the full Christian life that God
has given us to enjoy.

In John 10:10 Jesus said, “ I am come that you might have life and have it more
abundantly.” Then he goes on to tell us that there is an adversary, called the
Devil, that seeks to still, kill and destroy that life. The Devil will remind
us of our past in order to keep us from enjoying the life that God gave us to
live. The Devil does not want you to have a fresh start in life.

The good news is, God says, “ I want you to have a fresh start in life, I want you to
have a new beginning, I want to do something new in your life. ” Aren’t you
glad that God wants to do something new in your life? Doesn’t it make you
excited to know that God desire to give you a fresh start, a new beginning in
life. What all of us here need this morning is a Fresh Start, a New Beginning
with God. Last year some of you said, “ I am going to grow in my relationship
with God. I am going to pray more, read my bible more and get more involved in
my church. I’m going to spend more quality time with my family. ” The list
could go on. The fact all of us here made some mistakes or we made some bad
decision that hindered us from doing those things that wanted to do.

Well this morning the good news is according to Isaiah 43:18 “The Lord says, `Forget about what
has happened before. Do not think about the past. Instead, look at the new
things I’m going to do. ” Listen to what God is saying in this verse. Forget
about what’s happened before. He says don’t think about the past. It’s over.
The book’s closed on it.

We need to understand that God is far more interested in our future than He is in our
past. Some people think that God is stuck on their past. That all He wants to
do is remind them of the things that they have done wrong.
God is more interested in your future than He is with your past.
That’s where you’re going to spend the rest of your life. He says, “Forget about your past.
Forget about the former things. Don’t think about it. Look at the new thing I’m
going to do.”

Israel was being punished for their sins and rebellion against God.
God wanted to give hope and encouragement to His people.
He wanted them to know that even though they were being punished they were not being
forsaken.
God wanted His people to understand that the punishment that they were experiencing would
not be the end of them.
The fact is that God want to give them a fresh start in life, a new Beginning in life.

Israel no
doubt was discouraged because they thought this was the end of them.
They had
gone to far, they had sinned and rebelled against God to he point that He would
no longer be their God.
Maybe they
thought God would not deliver us again, it’s over.
That is when
they begin to remember the former things or past deliverances.
Israel could remember past deliverances and
past victories.
They could
remember when they were trapped by the Red Sea and had nowhere to go, how God
made away for them.
They could
remember that when the enemy was about to overtake them how He provided
protection for them.
They could
remember the former things, but they couldn’t see their future.
That is why
God said; “ I am going to do something new.

Maybe that
is where you are this morning!
You feel
that you have made so many mistakes, you have failed God so many times and you
have sinned it all away.
Now God
doesn’t want anything to do with you.
You feel and
believe that you have no future with God.
The good news is, God is saying, “ It’s not
over, I have plans for your life.
I am about
to do something new for you. ”

This morning
I want to share with you, “ How To Make a Fresh Start? ”

I want to
share with you a formula for starting over. S.T.A.R.T.
I hope you’ll
remember this and pass it along to friends when they have failures.
Regardless
of what kind of failure you had in the past.
You may have
had a financial failure, or maybe a relational failure, a failure in your
marriage. You may have had a moral failure.
You may have
really blown it and you may have made some decisions you’re so ashamed of and
hope nobody ever finds out about.
Regardless
of the failure you’ve had in your life, here’s how you start over.

S – Stop making excuses.

If I want a
fresh start in life, I have to stop making excuses for my failures.
I’ve got to
stop blaming other people.
I’ve got to
stop seeing myself as the victim of my circumstances.

Other people
can hurt us, other people can harm us, and other people can scar us.
But the only
person that can ruin your life is you.
Nobody can ruin your life without your
permission.
You have a
choice and that is you can choose how you’re going to respond to those hurts.
The Bible
says that the starting point is to just be honest and accept responsibility for
my part in the problem.

Proverbs
28:13 “A man who refuses to admit his mistakes can never be successful. But if
he confess and forsakes them he gets another chance.”

He gets a
fresh start.
He says the
starting point to starting over is to be honest and face up to the problems,
that most of the problems in my life, most of the failures, are my fault.

It is hard
to get people to admit when they are wrong.
People do
not like to admit, “ I made a mistake, and I blew it. ”
God says, “
That if we admit the mistake, if we admit our failures, and if we admit our
sin, then we get another chance in life.

The number
one reason we fail in life is we don’t prepare ourselves for the problems that
we will face in life.

The Bible
say’s (Proverbs 20:7) "A sensible man watches for problems and prepares to
meet them but the fool never looks ahead and suffers the consequences."

Was it
raining when Noah started building the ark? No.
He had to
prepare for the coming flood.
In fact the
rain didn’t come for 120 years.
But that’s
how long it took him to get the thing built.

· Because we
don’t listen to others. We don’t listen to good advise when it’s offered.

The Bible
says in Proverbs 15 “ Plans fail without good advise.”
You need to
get all the advice you can. Get good advise from people you know you can trust.

Why wont
people listen to the advice of other people?
Because they
think they don’t need it. It’s called pride. Ego. Ego stands for "Edging
God Out." When a person thinks they know more than God, they push Him out
of their life, they’re on an ego trip and that trip leads to a dead end.

The Bible
says, "Pride always leads to destruction."

An arrogant
attitude leads to a fall. When I think I know it all and I can figure it all
out myself, I’m setting myself up for failure, if I don’t listen to the advise
of others, if I don’t listen to the advise of my wife/boss/husband/other people
around me, if I think I’ll just do it my way. I’ll never get anywhere if I have
already arrived. The person that gets too big for their britches, will
eventually be exposed in the end. That’s the problem with pride.

We fail to
prepare and we fail to listen to other people and we fail as a result.

· We give up
too soon. These are the three greatest causes for failure. We give up too soon.

Proverbs
24:10 "If you give up when troubles come, it just shows that you are
weak."

Failure is
the path of least resistance. The problem is that often during trying times we
stop trying. We give up.

If at first
you don’t succeed, welcome to the human race. If at first you don’t succeed,
you’re normal. Very few people make it on the first try. Oftentimes, we give up
just when success is around the corner. You’re never a failure until you give
up. Sometimes we give up too soon.

It’s always
too soon to quit. The Bible says we need to stop making excuses, admit when
it’s our fault and get on with life. I’ve discovered that people who are very
good at making excuses are rarely good at anything else. They spend all their
energy thinking up reasons why they can’t do what they’re supposed to do.

So
"S" in START stands for Stop making excuses.

T - Take An Inventory Of My Life

I need to
take an inventory of my life. That means I need to evaluate all my experiences.
I need to look at what I have left after the failure. I need to take an
inventory of my life’s experiences and learn from them.

Galatians
3:4 "You have experienced many things. Were all those experiences wasted?
I hope not."

The Living
Bible say’s, “ You have suffered so much for the gospel. Now are you going to
throw it all over board.” I can hardly believe it.

Learn from
your mistakes. Failure can be your friend or your foe. You determine if failure
will be your friend or foe by the way you react to it. You can choose to learn
from it or choose to repeat it. If you learn from it then it can be your
friend. However, if you don’t learn from it is your foe.

There are
four kinds of experiences that God uses to shape our lives.

· He uses
personal experiences. The family that you grew up in, the people you relate to.
God can use your personal experience with your husband or your wife. He uses
personal experiences to shape you.

· He uses
vocational and educational experiences to shape you.

· He uses
spiritual experiences to shape you, like coming to church, going on a retreat
or reading your Bible, having a quiet time.

· He uses
painful experiences to shape you.

As you take
inventory of your life in starting over, you need to ask yourself three
questions.

· What have
I learned? I know people 40, 50 years old but they don’t have 40 or 50 years of
experience. They’ve had the same year of experience over and over. They’ve
never learned anything. What have you learned from past experiences? If you
don’t set down and think it through, you’ll end up repeating the same mistake
over and over again because you didn’t learn from it the first time.

· What are
my assets? What have I got going for me? Have I got my health? Have I got my
freedom? Am I still mentally sound? Have I got some friends? Have I got the
Lord? Have I got a church family? What do I have that I can get a fresh start
with?

· Who can
help me? When we need a fresh start, we need somebody by our side – a friend,
an accountability partner, a support person, or a support group. Find someone
that can help you. You need other people because you don’t start over by
yourself after a major setback or crisis. You need somebody else to walk along
with you. There is one that we can count on to be there to help us to get a
fresh start in life. The Lord Jesus will be there, He will help us to pull your
lives back together and make sure that we get started on the right foot.

A - Act in faith

This is the
third step in getting a fresh start. Act in faith. You have to launch out into
new territory. The Bible says that the key to changing anything is faith. If
you want to change your circumstance, it takes faith. If you want to change
your personality, it takes faith. If you want to change anything in your life,
you have to have some faith.

Jesus says
this in Matthew 9. “ According to your faith it will be done to you. ” That is
a very simple statement but it’s very powerful. “According to your faith it
will be done to you.” That means we tend to get out of life what we expect.
“According to your faith it will be done to you."

What are you
expecting in life? Are things going to be better or worse? Are they going to be
the same? If you act in faith then you will do something positive to ensure
that you don’t repeat the same mistakes over.

The faith
that I am talking about is not a dead hope so faith. It is an affirmative faith
that takes positive action coupled with the help of God to change your life.

Acts 3:1-5
Now Peter and John went up together into the temple at the hour of prayer,
being the ninth hour. 2And a certain man lame from his mother’s womb was
carried, whom they laid daily at the gate of the temple which is called
Beautiful, to ask alms of them that entered into the temple; 3Who seeing Peter
and John about to go into the temple asked an alms. 4And Peter, fastening his
eyes upon him with John, said, Look on us. 5And he gave heed unto them,
expecting to receive something of them.

This man
asked for something and expected to get it, but in reality he got more than he
expected. The point that I want to make is this lame man acted in faith and was
greatly rewarded. Many times we ask for something and expect to get nothing and
we get exactly what we expected, nothing.

In order to
start acting in faith that means you’ve got to stop having a pity party. You’ve
got to stop feeling sorry for yourself. “Poor me! I’m such a victim. Life is
unfair.” Of course life is unfair! Whoever said it was fair? God never said
that. This is a world filled with sin and because of that, life is unfair. But
you have to go on with life anyway. You stop having a pity party and stop rehearsing
the past, regretting the past, and you get on with the present and the future.
The more time we spend regretting our past, the more of our future is wasted.
The more time you spend thinking, "I wish that hadn’t happened! I wish I
could change that. If only I could go back, reverse the clock and redo
history," and you’re rehearsing and regretting, you’ll not only make
yourself miserable right now, you’re setting yourself up for more of the same
thing in the future. The way you set yourself up for more failure is by
focusing on past failures. Whatever you focus on you tend to reproduce in your
life. "According to your faith it will be done unto you."

What you
need to do is learn from those failures. Let me give you the real secret of
success. Every successful entrepreneur knows this. Real success is built on
failure. Failure is the way you become a success. You figure out what doesn’t
work. When Edison figured out on the 200th or so time, what would make a light
bulb stay lit, he did that because he knew 199 ways that didn’t work. You never
call it a failure in your life. Call it an education. You learn from past
failures and mistakes and act in faith for the future. Some people will never
act in faith because they have been paralyzed by the fear of past failures and
mistakes.

What we need
to do is learn from the past, act in faith for the future and look to God for
guidance.

How do you
get rid of fear of failure? Faith. That’s why the third step in starting over
is Act in faith. Faith is not so much the absence of fear, as it is moving
ahead in spite of your fear. Sometimes faith is doing the thing you fear the
most.

Stop
worrying about what others say or think. Proverbs 29:25 "Being afraid of
people can get you into trouble

The Living
Bible say’s, “ Fear of man is a dangerous trap, but to trust in God means
safety.

R - Refocus

I need to
refocus my thoughts if I want to change my life. If I want to get going again,
if I want a fresh start, I need to rethink the way that I think. I need to
change my mind about a number of issues.

Proverbs
4:23 "Be careful how you think. Your life is shaped by your
thoughts."

The way you
think, determines the way you feel. And the way you feel determines the way you
act. If you want to change your actions, just change the way you think and it
will inevitably change the way you act. If you are depressed, discouraged and
distressed it may be because you’re thinking depressed, discouraged and
distressing thoughts. That’s your choice. You don’t have to think those thoughts.
If you’re acting in fearful, worried ways it’s because you’re thinking fearful,
worried thoughts.

Romans 12:2
“ Be transformed by the renewing of your mind. ”

If I have to
refocus my thoughts to start over to get a fresh start, that means I have to
stop thinking some old patterns. Which memories are you still rehearsing that
keep you from having a fresh start in life? The Bible says let go. Let go of
those things. The more you hold on to that memory, the more you rehearse it, it
continues to hurt you today.

It cannot
hurt you without your permission. You have to change your mind and let go and
get rid of those painful, hurtful memories of shame and guilt and other things.

How do you
do that?

· First,
confession. You say, "I’ve confessed to God but I still feel guilty. How
do I get rid of a painful memory?" Not by resisting it but by replacing
it. Not saying, "I’m not going to think about it! I’m not going to think
about it!" What are you doing the whole time? Thinking about it. Stop
focusing on what you don’t want and start focusing on what you do want. Get
your attention onto something else. Refocus. Replace those memories by, every
time they come up, start thinking about something else. Focus on something
else.

· What’s the
best thing to focus on? God’s word.

Psalm 1
“Happy are those who are always meditating on God’s word. They’re like trees
along a river that do not dry up. They succeed in everything they do. ”

Those are
the two things that everybody wants in life. We all want to be happy and we all
want to succeed. The antidote, the answer, the way we get those is the phrase
right in the middle “ meditating on God’s word. ” That’s the answer to the other
two. The more you meditate on God’s word, the happier and more successful
you’ll be in Your Christian life. It’s a promise from God.

Meditating
on God’s word simply means rehearsing God’s word in our minds.

It’s
interesting that the Bible does not say, "If you read this book, you’ll be
happy and successful." It does not say, "If you listen to this book,
like through a sermon, you’ll be happy and successful." It says, "If
you meditate on it you’ll be happy and successful." In meditating it means
I think on it over and over and what it means in my life. I consider it and
consider its implications for my life. As we fill our mind with God’s word, it
begins to change our mind. We stop seeing ourselves as other people see us or
as we have seen ourselves and we begin to see ourselves as God does. That’s
where the change takes place. That’s the power to start over.

T – Trust

Trust God to
help us succeed. Depend on Him. We don’t need depend on ourselves.
We’ve
already proven that we can’t do it on our own.
That’s why
we’ve failed. Some people just don’t get it.
They stumble
and fall and then they get up and say, “I’ll just try harder!” It’s like you go
up to a wall and bang your head against it and the wall doesn’t fall down.
You try it
again and Bang! Again.
You keep
doing it thinking, “Maybe it will fall over this time.” That’s the definition
of insanity – doing the same thing over and over and over and expecting
different results. If we keep doing the same thing then we will keep getting
the same result. We can’t change who we are, only God can do that. I am not
speaking about the outward man but the inner man. The real person is the hidden
person of the heart. Success in the Christian life is not trying harder, but
living smarter. Giving God control of my life.

Zechariah
4:6 “ You will not succeed by your own strength or power but by My Spirit, says
the Lord. ”

“When
someone becomes a Christian, They become a brand new person inside. He is not
the same anymore. A new life has begun!” God specializes in new beginnings.
Jesus Christ has the power to do that. It’s called being born again, the chance
to start over. We can have fresh start with a new life as we begin this New
Year. God says, “I don’t want you to turn over a new leaf. I’m going to give you
a whole new life.”

Conclusion:
Will you have a fresh start in life? Will you have a new beginning? It’s your
choice. How can I have a fresh start? I can have a fresh start by:

· Stop
making excuse
· Take an
inventory of my life
· Act in
faith
· Refocus my
thoughts
· Trust God

Faithful, July 12, 2011

The verse in the Bible that speaks of the "Faithfulness of God" has truly been on my meart and mind this week. For truly, Our Lord is Faithful to His Children.

Isaiah 41:10 says, "So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold y ou with my righteous right hand".

Isn't it comforting to know that when you are resting and living in the Will of God, His promises are with us. Not just once in a while but all of the time. I am so blessed to know that God is Faithful like He promised He would be.

This week has been a very trying week but He is faithful. The devil really tried me and Praise God that the Lord was right there with me. God is truly faithful. Let me encourage you who are reading this blog, we serve a God who will walk with you and talk with; a God who will lead, guide and direct us in every way. God is truly faithful.

I just wanted to testify today how faithful God is! Please continue to hold me up in your prayers because I know the devil is mad but I dont care because God is faithful.

See you in service or in Heaven!

May 30, 2011 - Where has this year gone?

Well, it has been almost 6 months since I posted anything and I am so ashamed of myself for not posting like I used to. God has truly been doing some marvelous things both in our lives and at the Church where I pastor.

In the first part of 2011, we have been blessed to go and preach in revivals special services and see revivals at BPC. Missionaries have come and gone back to their place of service and what a blessing they have been to the Body of Christ as they are leading people to the Lord in a foreign land.

As we get ready to begin the 2nd half of 2011, I am encouraged to know that God is ready and willing to pour out His blessings on all of us. If we are willing to accept what He has for us. Turn your buckets up and receive what the Lord has for all of us!

2010 in Review

2010 in Review

As I look back over the past year of 2010, I am totally amazed at all that the Lord has done in my life and for other people because we were obedient unto the Lord. Totally over whelmed of all the Love and Support that we have been given while we are preaching and teaching the Word of God.

Here is my "Year in Review"

January started out with lots of snow and lots of service cancellations. We found that the weather had become a issue so we came up with the idea of only having one (1) service on Sundays and that service would begin at noon and there would be no morning or evening services. We were blessed to see souls saved (4) in January.

Our youth were blessed to go to their (BPC) first Accelerant in Gatlinburg, TN. We took a total of 17 people and had a wonderful time. We attended Christian Concerts and lots of Word being preached. During the Saturday Evening service 4 of our young people went up and got saved, renewed and rededicated their lives to the Lord. What an amazing weekend this turned out to be. Our Young People came back to Beckley, WV on fire for the Lord and caused a Revival among the other Youth in the church. Praise God!

February started out great as we started our Annual "Winter Revival" from the 1st through the 10th; crowds were great starting out and then BAM, the snow began to fall again. Let me just say this, what the devil means for bad, God turns it around for the good. We were blessed to see three (3) people rededicate their life back to the Lord the first week of Winter Revival. Brother Steve Board preached some timely messages during the first week of Revival. Due to the amount of snow fell, the second week of Winter Camp Meeting was cancelled out.

Sister Sally and I were blessed to be able to attend the "Minister's Summit" in Pigeon Forge, TN and my what a blessed time it was. We were able to meet up with some pastors and be able to just sit and talk. How refreshing was that.

Came back from the Summit and preached under such an anointing and during the Sunday Morning Service one person said she (CH) was healed of the pain that she had been feeling in her body. Three (3) people saved in the month of February.

March came in like it always does and we were able to have with us Missionaries from England, Robert and Michelle Crigger. As they shared with us what God was doing in the London and all over England, the Lord began to deal with me about supporting more missionaries.

Attended the Great Commission Meals with all the other local churches in the Central WV District and had a great time. We were blessed as a church to receive 7 Star Award for our Giving to Missions.

We were blessed to be able to participate in a Revival at the Sky Baptist Church in Beckley, WV were the pastor is William Fruit. This was a great revival. We also preached and spoke at a TEEN CENTER in Princeton, WV and hosted a Men's Resurrection Breakfast with Pastor Phil Farrington came and preached a timely message.

In the month of March we were blessed to experience 9 souls saved, renewed or rededicated unto the Lord. Praise God!

April came in a running. We were preaching under such a great anointing that I could not explain or tell what was happening with me. The first Sunday in April that we preached we seen 5 souls saved/reclaimed and then on April 5th, Raleigh County, West Virginia received some bad news around the 4pm time frame. There was a massive explosion at a Massey Mines and then at or about 5 pm, we realized that my Uncle Kenny was one of the miners that was in the mines at the time of the explosion. We called a Prayer Vigil at the Church at or about 6:30pm. Several came out for a time of prayer for our families and coal miners in this tradgic accident.

The Pastors Anniversary weekend that was planned was cancelled due to the events that was taking place in the County of Raleigh.

On April 11th, the Beckley Praise Church celebrated our Homecoming with Special Guest Speaker Brother Preston Mathena and then a dinner afterwards. This was a great day but still there was a shadow hanging over the services of people thinking about the miners who were still trapped in the mines.

We were blessed to preach at a dear friends church on that Sunday Evening, Sycamore FP Church were the pastor is Jerry Tyree. On that following Saturday afternoon, we were blessed to be able to preach at a Youth Senate at the Mount Olive Missionary Baptist Church. This was a great time in the Lord and was truly blessed to see young people working for the Lord. Then on the 24th, we were blessed to be able to speak on a friends local radio broadcast.

Total Saved in April was five (5). Praise the Lord!

May was just like April when it came time for me to preach messages. The anointing was so strong and so prevalent on me that the messages were powerful.

On the first Thursday in May, BPC hosted the Annual National Day of Prayer Gospel Sing and my what a wonderful time we had. There were 23 churches represented and 85 people represented at the sing.

Also participated in a 3 Day Youth Revival at the Mount Olive Missioanry Baptist Church. My what a blessing this was to be a part of.

And then at the end of the month we were blessed to be able to attend our Family Reunion where I performed a Marriage Renewal for my oldes Brother Mark and his wife Mary.

June was started out by going straight into a revival at the Pleasant Valley Baptist Church with the great Pastor, Charles Brown. The Revival was a blessing to those who attended and they were filled.

Our Sunday School Department hosted our Annual SS Picnic at the Granview State Park where we were rained out. We came back to the church, where the weather was beautiful and we had a great time in the Lord there.

We particpated again in the Community Gospel Nights in Sophia, WV and also participated in Ladies Night at the Sky Baptist Church at the 7pm hour. We preached under such an anointing that I cant explain.

June we were blessed to see three (3) saved.

July came with souls beign saved in the first couple of services and our Teens were participating in a program at the Linda Kay Epling Baseball Field.

My family and I went on vacation during this month.

In July we were blessed to see Eight (8) saved and Seven (7) Baptized.

August was another month of blessings and favor from the Lord. In this month we were blessed to see five (5) saved. Praise the Lord.

September is what we would consider Training month and we were blessed to be able to participate in the Discipleship Ministries Fall Day of Training in Dublin, Virginia. Then on Sunday the 12th, we took some youth and attended Youth Day at Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Bluefield, WV.

We preached for Pastor Gary Hosey at the Mattsville Community Church on a Friday Night Fellowship service. What a blessing that was.

BPC hosted its first Youth Day on Saturday the 18th; and oh my what a wonderful time we had. Our youth experienced a day of learning the proper way of taking care of themselves and also how to properly have dinner at a formal setting. The dinner was catered.

On the 3rd week in September, we preached a Revival at one of our Sister Churches; Shady Spring PHC. These services was great and the power of the Lord was real.

On the 4th week in September, BPC hosted their Annual Fall Fellowship Revival with various speakers each night. All the ministers came and ministered unto the Church in such an amazing way.

October came and the youth came with it. October immediately because Youth Month; we were blessed to host "Youth Day" with the Karen Spurlock band on the 10th, Sunday morning service and my what a wonderful time we had. The band came and played amazing and not just the youth had a good time but the entire church was blessed. Our youth, Forgiven, drama team came and did a wonderful job.

Then on Friday the 15th of October, we hosted a Youth Rally at a local Camp. Karen Spurlock Bank, JFraz and Steve O came and performed along with Forgiven. We had a wonderful time in getting to know our youth and being able to support them more with the Word of God.

Then on the 23rd of October, I was blessed to be able to go and preach at Living Waters Worship Center in St. Albans, WV where Mike Martin is the pastor.

November and December came and all the services was such a blessing to me as the pastor. The Presence of God was real, was relevant and was personal in everyone's life who allowed Him to move. The Babe came but did not stay as a babe.....He is our Savior.

Well, there you have it......my year in review of BPC and our ministry schedule. I am looking forward to doing more in 2011 and if you want us to come and minister in your church, email me at: bpcseniorpastor@yahoo.com and we will come and be with you in your service.

Be blessed and remember keep on keeping on.
